Tai Chi: Well, Tai Chi is Maurice Chin. Chucky: Where is Tai Chi originally from? Tai Chi: Portmore, St. Catherine where mi born and raise... but a Central Village mi did live. Chucky: So, how did the name Tai Chi come about? Tai Chi: Well my last name a Chin... and my nickname was Tai... and because mi did love pure karate movie the name Tai Chi jus come about easy. Chucky: What would you say influenced you to become a dancer? Tai Chi: I love disco music... and then Bogle the dancer nice it up... him keep the dancing thing nice... so when mi come a foreign, dancing was just another thing weh keep me out of trouble... Chucky: It is understood that Tai Chi had a connection with a dancing group called Startime dancers/faculty... what caused the split? Tai Chi: Lol... Well, things a things... the whole thing start over gyal... man start malice and get vex over woman... a girl like me and a man waan malice over it... Chucky: Is there still a connection? Tai Chi: We keep a little links still but it not as tight as before... so Tai Chi and Startime is not together right now. Chucky: What is the difference rolling solo than when you were with Startime? Tai Chi: MI have things pat... but the dancing feel a little dead when is a solo thing... there was much more vibes as a group... it's kinda harder to get the attention by yourself. Chucky: With the recent attention that dancehall/reggae music has been receiving and the surge of dancing groups around the Connecticut/Springfield/New York area how has this impacted Tai Chi? Tai Chi:Mi mek a name a New York and Connecticut and it feel good... Massachusetts big... so a more vibes and niceness... mi get respect... Mi link with Crazy Vybz and things just get crazy... When me do mi thing solo it feel good... and when me deh a Hartford mi do a thing with Crazy Vybz just like how when them deh a Springfield we do a thing together... Chucky: And do you feel any competition? Tai Chi: Not really... but competition gonna get harder every time... a just you have to try and make yourself better cause everybody a dance now... so you just have to mix things and try to be better than the next person. Chucky: Does Tai Chi create his own dances and what motivates the creativity? Tai Chi: Yeah, a the riddim and the girls motivate me... just get a vibes off the riddims or how the girls a respond and it just feel good and mi start dance... more time mi all pull a girl come dance with mi... just draw them in. Chucky: I've heard people say that dancehall dancers are going to be a dying breed based on the notion that they are only here now because of the dancing riddims/songs that are being produced. How do you feel about that? Tai Chi: I don't think so... dancing was from back in the days... from there was music there was dancing... it takes two... from a artist a gi a vibes from instruction tunes dancing have to go on... and when the riddim play from it big... dancing a gwaan... whether it fast or slow dancing still there... Chucky: Where do you see dancing and Tai Chi in the next, say five years? Tai Chi: Yo, dancing aguh get crazy... more dancers, more artists, and more stars... different style and ways to tek it to them... mi all a work pon a tune for the girls, it name Dandy Shandy... write it and just waan perform it... Chucky: So, Tai Chi is an artist to? Tai Chi: Yeah, mi write, dance and Dj... Chucky: Getting exposure through dancing might be a bit harder than doing music, how has the struggle been for you? And how did you persevere? Tai Chi: Yeah it harder cause is a new thing and everybody a bomb rush it... the haters them want take the shine... but the dj them a kick it off, and push it... but the girls them really make it enjoyable, naah whole no badmind... a just fi whole a vibes through friendship... and Crazy Vybz bad already... mi jus a make an establishment. Chucky: What makes Tai Chi different from other dancers? Tai Chi: Mi just go out there and enjoy myself... nuh watch no face... just a do mi thing and feel the vibes that the music a give off... nuh inna this fi start trouble... Chucky: Where can the people link up with Tai Chi? Tai Chi: All over... all the parties and pon mi myspace page, myspace.com/tai_chi_general Chucky: What does Tai Chi do before performing?
