ASSAULTMAGAZINE.COM® 01/20/2008 - Exclusive interview with Amrah.


In the #1 corner, hailing from Springfield, Mass. by way of "Suffera's Heights", Jamaica - Central Village. Seed of Camalita Lynch, former detective, international representative in track and field, responsible father of 3 young'ns and possessing the stance and mind-frame of a champion on a mission. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, old and young, the whole world... "AMal" Raul Anthony Harvey - AMRAH. Whilst busy promoting his image and upcoming ventures, we took the opportunity to get the anticipated update on Amrah at his recent Assault Magazine photo shoot. Without hesitation, I was quickly engulfed in a "get to know" conversation with the well-rounded "international representive".

Amrah: Yo' mi dups waah gwaan?

Chucky: Mi deh yah... What's up with you?

Amrah: Deh yah, a promote and thing... a keep it right and proper... the thing a swing mad... 2008 aguh be crazy.

Chucky: Hartford promotions?

Amrah: Yeah man, mi a promote at Hartford, Springfield and plans on doing New York.

Chucky: A global thing...

Amrah: Exactly.

Chucky: Okay, so tell the people, how did Amrah get his name?

Amrah: "Amal" was my pet name that my mother used to call me and because my real name is Raul Anthony Harvey I just add them together in a little way and you know...

Chucky: Okay... I see how it come together...

Chucky: Growing up in Central Village what was it like?

Amrah: Well inna "Suffera's Heights" as it is called you have to know your rights... you have to know what you a go for... It was basically a training ground...

Chucky: So, when did you realize that you wanted to do music?

Amrah: Mi start from when Elephant Man inna Scare Dem Crew... back then, I used to write for Mega Banton and a couple of other artist... I wasn't able to do music then because I was in the force... went to college... soon after I just say f*ck police and start write... and seeing myself as a talented youth a just straight truth mi talk - nah hide... no reason for lies.

Chucky: What motivated you to do music?

Amrah: I have a lot to contribute to the world... music is the 3rd phase... movie 4th... like the great prophet, Bob Marley mi just waan touch the world.

Chucky: How does your family feel about your music?

Amrah: Well, mi mother never knew what to expect, but she love it now... my kids love it to... they all involved... Music is life...

Chucky: Do you view music as your career or is it just a fun thing?

Amrah: My music is my career and I also love it... it is one of the things I love with the most passion.

Chucky: If you weren't doing music what would you be doing?

Amrah: Wi deSome form of entertainment... maybe counseling or coaching/teaching music...

Chucky: Okay... how would you describe your music to the people?

Amrah: It's reggae... english based... I sing for everybody, not just for Jamaicans... a great example of that is Bob Marley, he did music for the world...

Chucky: What was the first song you wrote?

Amrah: "We Are The World"... I write to change the world and create power...

Chucky: Where was your first performance?

Amrah: At University of Oklahoma... which I represented as an international track athlete from Jamaica... it was a predominantly white audience... so you could imagine... at a talent show... I did a song called "Father In Heaven" and the whole place love it.

Chucky: Would you say that was your most memorable moment?

Amrah: Actually, no... no... I would say my most memorable moment was a seminar I went to 1 month ago where I performed for people from BET and a host of other music executives.

Chucky: How do you feel about the music industry?

Amrah: There is a lot of knowledge to gain... they gave me a lot of insight at the seminar... as long as you know what to do and how to do it and put the right step forward it can be a fulfilling thing...

Chucky: Are there any albums out there that you have created?

Amrah: Yeah... the first 1 was "Against All Odds", that had 16 tracks and the new one is titled "Too Fast" that should be released around the first or second week in January 2008... I brought my demo to the seminar and I got back crazy responses from it... radio and execs...

Chucky: Speaking of the seminar... is there one thing that the people don't know about you that you would like to share?

Amrah: Amrah serious... a so di shit design... once again the world is mine... I'm here to take over the world...

Chucky: So, what about the seminar... it is understood that a deal is in place?

Amrah: Lol... well... lol... I can't say yet...

Chucky: No information?

Amrah: Lol... there is a future with a major label... I received six (6) offers actually from the seminar... things are in the lawyer phase right now... so nuttin not finalized...

Chucky: Lol... no name calling?

Amrah: Lol... well because of the extensive process, is like, mi nuh waan say a Aftermath and then yuh hear seh is Kanye West...

Chucky: Okay... so the title... what influenced the title "Too Fast"?

Amrah: My track career. The way the thing set up... yuh haffi pay attention... mi just move fast as an artist and international track athlete... placed number 6 in Jamaica and number 39 in the world in the 400 meter dash...

Chucky: How has the response been from the people towards your music?

Amrah: Crazy. I got like three (3) or four (4) calls from labels... my Myspace page is crazy... yuh know... no surprise...

Chucky: How do you stay on top of your game?

Amrah: I write everyday... for the week I have like 4 or 5 songs - 60 going on 80 for the month...

Chucky: Other than musical talents what other attributes do you possess?

Amrah: I have three (3) degrees, sociology, health & physical education, and teaching/coaching...

Chucky: So... you most definitely have something to drop back on if you decide to stop...

Amrah: Yeah... a balance... can't have too much knowledge...

Chucky: Who are top five (5) greatest artist of all time?

Amrah: This one is a hard one... well...
(1) Bob Marley - the greatest
(2) Shabba
(3) Bounty - him help nuff youths
(4) Buju - definitely... him do a lot,
(5) Shaggy - Mi respect him based on his international achievements.
The youths in music... just be yourself and keep grindin' and be yourself.


Chucky: Where is your most favorite chill spot?

Amrah: Lol... not to sound stuck up... but actually at home with the kids... I like being at home with my kids... they are my best critique...

Chucky: What is Amrah longing for?

Amrah: Peace on Earth... I believe in live and let others live... things fi run according to God's plan... we haffi think about the future generation...
